Our school is a small populated public primary school called “Public Primary School of AgiosTychonas”, situated in the village/community of “AgiosTychonas” at the eastern part of Limassol (Lemesos) in Cyprus. It consists of 67 children from 6 – 12 years old, 8 teachers and 3 special education teachers in part-time basis. It is also a multiculture school in which 37,3% of the children are locals (Cypriots), 37,3% coming from 17 different countries (mainly european countries) and 25,3% are children from mixed marriages.
“AgiosTychonas” is a small coastal village/community located 15 km far from Limassol (south coastline), the second larger town of the island of Cyprus. It is one of the famous tourist areas of the island and the eastern Mediterranean growing constantly over the last 25 to 30 years. It offers large luxurious hotels and sandy beaches awarded with the blue flag. Many foreign residents also live here either temporarily or permanently. Within the boundaries of the community there is the archaeological site of “Amathus”, one of the oldest kingdom of Cyprus (3000 BC and even earlier).
The school took part for many years in the European Environmental Educational Program “Eco-Schools” including also this school-year. It is also participates in the national recycle network as the entire community.
Recently, -however we know we are late…- we have decided to be involved for the first time ever in a Comenius project cooperating with other schools in Europe for common goals and objectives starting the coming school year (September 2013).
We are looking for partners who are interested in issues concerning culture, citizenship/diversity/multiculturalism and environmental issues. We believe that it will be a great chance for our school to make a big step forward to further development and success.
